Billy McFarland Says Fyre Festival Event Is 'Officially Happening' In August

Disgraced Fyre Festival founder Billy McFarland has boldly declared that the first Fyre event since his 2017 dumpster fire of a festival is "actually happening" this August.

Taking to Instagram to post a video, MacFarland told followers, "Guys, this is actually happening, the first Fyre event since 2017 is exactly two months away. Are you coming?"

He later claimed that following the announcement, he had "3,750 applicants for FYRE II from a tweet and bad selfie video".

It's a wild claim, considering the shit show that was the original Fyre Festival was so astonishingly cooked that it went on to spur the Netflix documentary Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened.

The 2017 event saw attendees paid up to $US12,000 for the Bahamas-based music festival, where they were promised a luxury weekend, but instead arrived at Exumas to find that the festival site still needed to be finished being built.

As more punters arrived, social media was flooded with shocking images of the event, including a now-infamous snap of the festival's "luxury" food options.

Music acts such as blink-182 and Major Lazer were originally confirmed for the Fyre Fest bill, however, the event was called off on the first day after its acts pulled out following the news.

Following the dumpster fire, Billy McFarland went to prison in 2018 after pleading guilty to two counts of wire fraud and was released early last March.

McFarland was accused of presenting investors with fake documents that convinced some to contribute more than US$1 million.

McFarland also reportedly budgeted for a $US160,000 yacht for blink-182 (who eventually pulled out of the gig due to concerns about the festival) but did not budget for the festival punters. 

It's not the first time MacFarland has insisted on going ahead with a second shot at the failed fezzy. Last October, TMZ revealed that the fraudster was planning another music festival (despite literally no one asking for it).

McFarland then posted to Twitter in April confirming this, saying, “Fyre Festival II is finally happening. Tell me why you should be invited.” 

One person, however, who refuses to be hustled, scammed, bamboozled, hood-winked, and lead astray for a second time is Billy's former Fyre Festiva co-founder, Ja Rule.

"I don't know nothing about it!" the 47-year-old rapper told PEOPLE at TuneCore's 50 Years of Hip Hop event in New York City in April. "I don't know nothing about it. I ain't in it!"
