Former The Amity Affliction singer and bassist Ahren Stringer has been hospitalised in “serious” condition, a post from his new project has revealed.

Stringer has joined forces with former Volumes vocalist Yung Yogi for his new project, Self Checkout, and the pair have recently spent time in Mexico City recording new music.

The pair were set to celebrate the release of their debut single, Death Notes, this week, but attention has turned to supporting Stringer in his health and recovery as he faces an unnamed “serious and unexpected emergency.”

“To Our Self Checkout Family,

“We really wanted to actively engage in celebrating the release of Death Notes with you all in real time,” a post from the band shared yesterday (14 September) reads. “Unfortunately, we are supporting Ahren in hospital after a serious and unexpected emergency, so our priority has shifted to his health and recovery.

“We hope you enjoy the big day enough for all of us, your support means the world xxx.”

The Music wishes Stringer a smooth recovery.

In February, The Amity Affliction officially parted ways with Ahren Stringer after a tumultuous 12-month period, with the band citing “certain behaviours” and a complete relationship breakdown.

Following some back-and-forth posting on social media, in which Stringer confirmed he wouldn’t be touring with the band “for the foreseeable future,” he and his former Amity Affliction bandmates entered a legal battle over the group’s trademarks.

Stringer and Yogi formed Self Checkout earlier this year, with the intention of exploring mental health stigmas through diverse musical arrangements that spanned heavy music and hip-hop.

Addressing expectations surrounding his new project earlier this year, Stringer explained, “I know we both have a very bad reputation…because we’re like, admitted addicts, everyone thinks we’re just like POS, but you’re gonna see that we’re not.

“We’re gonna prove the world wrong. And we want to thank you guys for sticking with us, and we hope you love what we’ve produced. It’s gonna be fire.”
