Rapper Fetty Wap, also known as Willie Maxwell II, has been hit with a six-year prison sentence for drug trafficking.
The celebrated artist, who rose to fame with his chart-topping hit Trap Queen, pleaded guilty in August to conspiracy to distribute cocaine, which carries a mandatory five-year minimum prison sentence.
Fetty was reportedly a member of an organisation that distributed more than 100 kilograms of cocaine, heroin, fentanyl and crack cocaine across Long Island and New Jersey from June 2019 through June 2020, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of New York.
Court documents in the case also claimed that the rapper, along with his co-defendants, used the U.S. Postal Service and drivers with hidden vehicle compartments to transport the drugs across the country.
According to XXL, the rapper's legal team recommended a five-year sentence, with his attorney, Elizabeth Macedonio, arguing that his “instant offense” stemmed from “depression” and was compounded by “financial obligations” that were exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fetty was initially arrested on his way to Rolling Loud back in October 2021 on charges that he allegedly participated in a conspiracy to smuggle large amounts of heroin, fentanyl and other drugs into the New York City area.

He entered his guilty plea after prosecutors revealed that he had threatened to kill a man via a FaceTime call in 2021, which subsequently violated the terms of his pretrial release in his drug case and leading to his bond being revoked.
It's just the latest in a string of rough patches for the muso, with his four-year-old daughter Lauren Maxwell, who he shared with dancer and musician Turquoise Miami, dying in August 2021 from "a fatal cardiac arrhythmia due to complications of congenital cardiac anomalies," as per TMZ.
Following her tragic death, Fetty shared a heartfelt tribute to Instagram alongside a photo of Lauren, writing, "Hey mini me (My Twin) ♥️🦋 …. ' I love you to the moon and back forever and ever bestfriend '🦋🕊 🐻…"
He later took to Instagram Live, where he showed fans a photo of his late daughter and asked them to post all butterfly emojis since she "loved" butterflies.
Fetty also dedicated his Rolling Loud Miami set to his "Lolo".
