If you needed an example of one of the busiest artists on Australian soil right now, you needn’t look further than Fatboy Slim.

The iconic English producer is currently in the country on a headline tour which launched last week. Already he's hit up Perth's Langley Park, Bowral's Centennial Vineyards, and Sydney's Roundhouse, while he's also performed at the Crown Lakeside Festival as part of the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix.

On Wednesday, March 19th, he had a bit of a busy one, however. Last week, Fatboy Slim announced he'd be returning to Revolver Upstairs in Prahran for a special one-off in-the-round DJ set, with tickets selling out almost instantly.

Not content with letting that sit lonely in his schedule, he decided to venture to the nearby St Kilda for a special pop-up secret set at the Northern Soul fish and chip shop.

Announced only an hour before, it’s worth pointing out that sets such as this aren’t uncommon at Northern Soul, with the event marking their 100th live Soul Sessions gig.

Since opening in 2022, they’ve become one of Melbourne’s most celebrated cult food spots, with their Soul Sessions project aiming to support live DJ sets for years, offering a stage for emerging and established artists alike.

Fatboy Slim is scheduled to hit the stage once again on Friday, heading over to Adelaide for performance at Peter Lehmann Wines in the Barossa Valley. He’ll return to Victoria to play at Geelong's Mt Duneed Estate on Saturday, before wrapping it all up with a date at Sirromet Wines in Mount Cotton on Sunday, March 23rd.

Late last year, Fatboy Slim indicated that there might not be a whole heap of recorded music coming out in the future, with the producer revealed he’d lost his “passion” for making new gear.

“The thing is, you can’t make music unless you’re absolutely passionate about it and it drives you from the moment you wake up in the morning,” he said. “I just don’t seem to feel like that any more. I feel like that about DJing and about putting on things like this, but I’ve kind of lost my passion for making music.”

“For five years, I tried to beat myself up about it and go, ‘You should be doing this’,” he added. “But then I thought, ‘Well, everybody likes my DJing and I enjoy that more, so I’ll do that’. I’m hoping that one day the passion will come back.”

Tickets to Fatboy Slim’s current Australian tour are on sale now.
