More Hands Like Houses More Hands Like Houses

Their first body of work since their 2018 album -Anon., Hands Like Houses have today released their self-titled EP.

Collisions, resolutions, communication and expression heavily inform the themes found on the EP, taking listeners on a deep-dive into its whirlwind writing and recording process – scars and all. Unlike  -Anon. – created over weeks of cruisy LA writing sessions – this EP’s creation took place over a tightly condensed ten day period and the band believe that the experience has birthed their most personally raw and uninhibited work yet.

Here the band's Joel Tyrrell (bass/vocals) takes us behind the scenes of those ten days of recording:

"Avoca Studios. We had a different studio approach to making this EP, we brought the studio into a beachside AirBnB in Avoca and got very comfy."

"Guitars. Funnily enough these things were instrumental in making this EP... literally. Featuring Kiesel, Fender, Gibson and a homemade custom beauty."

"Jamming through a tune in the kitchen/lounge/control room. Yes, there is still a label on the computer monitor, we may have bought it and returned it after we finished recording..."

"The drum(mer's) room. We had about four mini studios set up in the house for continuous writing. Matty enjoyed bashing those drums, and we enjoyed those dampening pads."

"We were one bedroom short in the house, and Coops lost scissor, paper, rock. So he ended with this little nook as his room. What happened in that little nook will remain a mystery."

"Ping pong games were frequent during our time recording, there were many epic battles and a few curse words shared, but Joel held the champ title with an undefeated series."

"Our view from the balcony, featuring Matty P's work van. Joel's van actually broke down with all our gear just before leaving Canberra, so shout out to Matty P's work for lending us the tradie van."

"We dropped into The Grove for a few days to put some special touches on the EP, here we have Coops and Alex talking about riffs."

"It's easy to get carried away in the studio, but when the sun's out and you're at the beach, it's worth attempting to stay in shape."

"The crew! The last day recording the EP with our producer Colin Brittain. We had highs, lows, riffs, beers, surfs and came out with some rockin tunes!"
