Australia’s 2022 entry, Sheldon Riley has stunned viewers across the globe from the Eurovision Song Contest, being voted through Semi Final 2 with his performance of Not The Same.

Riley will now compete for Australia in the Grand Final in Turin, Italy this Sunday, May 15, which you can watch on SBS and SBS On Demand.

“I’m absolutely ecstatic. Tonight I just wanted to deliver my best performance and make Australia proud. It’s a huge thrill that people across Europe have appreciated Not the Same, and I’m so happy I get to be on the stage again this weekend,” Riley said.

“I can’t wait to be part of the Grand Final in front of 200 million people, and see what all the other amazing acts are going to bring to the stage. This is honestly a dream come true for me. I am so thankful for all the support from fans over here and everyone back home.”

Australian Head of Delegation and SBS Commissioning Editor Emily Griggs added: “Australia is through to the Grand Final once again and we couldn’t be prouder of Sheldon. He has truly captured the attention of Europe and has been representing the country with style and one sensational voice.

Riley is one of ten artists from Semi Final 2 to proceed to the Grand Final, with eight other countries knocked out of the competition.

Belgium, Czech Republic, Azerbaijan, Poland, Finland, Estonia, Sweden, Romania and Serbia also make it through Semi Final 2, while Ukraine, Armenia, Greece, Iceland, Lithuania, Moldova, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal and Switzerland were voted through from Semi Final 1.

Spain, UK, France, Italy and Germany, aka the “Big Five”, will also compete in the Grand Final.

Riley’s qualifying performance will air again tomorrow night, May 14, at 8.30pm on SBS ahead of its live Eurovision Grand Final coverage, which kicks off from 5am AEST on Sunday, May 15.
