Jack White performed a short but sweet halftime set at the Detroit Lions’ annual Thanksgiving Day Classic at Ford Field on Thursday (27 November).

Launching into That’s How I’m Feeling, from his album No Name, White then went into a White Stripes tune, Hello Operator, before introducing a surprise special guest and fellow Detroit icon: Eminem.

Together, the pair played the rapper’s song ‘Till I Collapse, tearing the place down with their matching energy. The performance of ‘Till I Collapse marked the first time that Eminem and Jack White have ever shared the stage.

After the surprise collaboration, Jack White closed his set with The White Stripes’ hit, Seven Nation Army, which has gone on to become a bona fide sporting anthem.

Eminem co-executive-produced the halftime show alongside his manager, Paul Rosenberg.

In a statement, Jesse Collins Entertainment Executive VP Seth Dudowsky told Billboard that Jack White was the perfect artist to headline the halftime show, as anyone who’s been to a major sporting event has heard Seven Nation Army blare through the speakers.

Dudowsky said, “Jack White was a perfect artist to… represent rock ‘n’ roll and be on that stage, and somebody who not only spans Detroit, but anybody who’s been in stadiums and at sports events has heard [‘Seven Nation Army’] at some point.”

Earlier this month, The White Stripes were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, with Jack White accepting the honour on behalf of himself and his former bandmate, Meg White. Eminem was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022.

Jack White made headlines with his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame acceptance speech, not only because he read out a poem dedicated to Meg White, but also because he honoured his numerous inspirations who haven’t been inducted into the Hall of Fame. You can read more of his speech here.
