In support of her second album NARA, which dropped today, multi-award-winning lutruwita/Tasmania-based artist Emily Wurramara has announced a national tour.

The tour kicks off this Sunday, with an in-store performance and vinyl signing at Suffragette Records in Hobart. You’ll also be able to find Wurramara performing at the Australian Women in Music Awards on October 2 at Fortitude Music Hall in Brisbane and Wild Village Festival in Perth on November 1.

But, the real headline tour gets started in Sydney, at Waywards At The Bank, on November 8. After that, Wurramara will hit Stag & Hunter in Newcastle on November 9 and The Royal Oak in Launceston on November 15. She’ll then play Live at the Gardens, supporting Xavier Rudd, in Melbourne on November 23, Queenscliff Music Festival on November 24, and It’s Still A Secret in Brisbane on November 29. She’ll hit the Mixtape Sessions at Studio 188 in Ipswich on November 30, and, lastly, Wurramarra will close out her tour at Brunswick Heads Picture House on December 1.

Tickets for all shows are on sale now.

The tour comes in support of NARA, Wurramara’s second studio album. The title translates to ‘nothing’ in the Anindilyakwa language, and is deeply sentimental for Wurramara, as she told The Music earlier this year: “My people are from Groote Eylandt and Bickerton Island in the Gulf of Carpentaria, and when we use the word ‘nara’, we don’t say it like narra, we go nah-raaah; there’s an emphasis to it. You get the feeling that it’s heavy – like, ‘Oh shit, you’ve actually got nothing.’”

“[In writing for NARA] I felt like I had to try and understand my trauma; I had to feel uncomfortable for a bit [so I could] forgive myself and learn to love myself in this new light. Because I wanted my songs to reflect the different stages of the grief I was experiencing, or the different parts of the joy – whatever was happening at that time... And there was a lot. It was what I to call ‘beautiful chaos’ – where there’s just shit flying everywhere and you never know what’s going to happen – and as a songwriter, I really wanted to showcase all of it. I wanted to show that I can write about whatever I want.”
