Panel bloodbath at the Electronic Music Conference
The inaugural Australian Electronic Music Conference saw sparks fly in its second and closing day.
Taking place in Sydney as part of the ARIA Week celebrations – a run of events leading up to the ARIA Awards ceremony – the anticipated Artist Panel lived up to expectations as American label boss and producer Diplo and Russian tech house producer Nina Kraviz provided the most tense moment of the conference.
Shortly after Diplo had contended that producing was “almost like marketing” to him, Kraviz took a stand over vinyl and the 'dying art of the DJ' in the industry.
Diplo responded, “I press vinyl, but I'll play a 120k track – I don't give a shit... I actually play YouTube rips.” He added that in the end, “what really matters is that the artist is genuine”, even if their releases are ghost-written. “The fans don't actually care,” he said.

Kraviz seemed to take offence and replied, “I think some of them do.”
Diplo deadpanned “Alright” and turned away - just as you could cut the tension with a knife.
The other panels on day two were more civil, and saw Future Entertainment's Scott Robertson slam young promoters for their work ethic.
