The 'Knight Rider' veteran has unveiled 'True Survivor' in support of forthcoming short film 'Kung Fury'
The 1980s were especially kind to veteran actor/musician/entertainer David Hasselhoff, so it should come as little surprise that he'd be so eager to revisit the time period with his new video for True Survivor, the lead cut from the soundtrack for forthcoming independent action-comedy Kung Fury.
Although Hasselhoff doesn't actually feature in the film, the start of the clip (his first new single since 2011's It's A Real Good Thing and California Girl, though he released 17th LP This Time Around in 2012) features reworked movie footage which sees the Hoff casually roll up alongside a group of street thugs and questions them about their firearm credentials before one of them uses a skateboard to kickflip the Hoff's police car into the air and unleash a hailstorm of bullets in his general direction.
Sometime around the point that the Hoff lands without a scratch, doing some perfect splits, while everything explodes behind him, it becomes immediately obvious that viewers are in for a hell of a ride. Film & clip director David Sandberg does not disappoint from there, decking True Survivor out in all manner of synth-soaked '80s madness, from the soft-focus glare and kitschy arpeggios to the pinkish-purple mist that swirls around Hasselhoff and an ultra-flash retro sports car while he sings about fighting for what you believe in.
It's, in a word, amazing.

If you're wondering just what the heck kind of a film could possibly give rise to such an incredible musical accompaniment, then rest easy, because we've also tracked down the trailer for Kung Fury, a half-hour action comedy that follows the titular "Kung Fu renegade cop" on a vengeance quest back in time to kill Adolf Hitler, aka Kung Fuhrer, after his friend is assassinated by the expert martial artist and dictator.
The movie transitioned from fevered dream of a madman to reality with help from Kickstarter - the project picked up $US630,019 (about $806,000) from nearly 18,000 backers - and stars Sandberg, Joanna Hägglbom, Leopold Nilsson, Andreas Cahling and Per-Henrik Arvidius, with production by Laser Unicorns, Lampray and Salmon Fox.
Kung Fury is due to be released in Sweden on 28 May. Believe us, we will let you know the second there is information regarding an Australian release.
