"The voices – the part that I do – is the fun bit," says McCormack (aka, Bluey's dad, Bandit). "I just act like an idiot in the studio and then they cut it all up and make it good."

In case there was ever any doubt that the forthcoming Bluey movie was going to be a hit, one need only listen to the reassurance of Dave McCormack (aka Bandit Heeler) to keep up the excitement levels.
Late last year, it was announced that the series – which has been running since 2018 and has only risen in popularity since – will be getting the big screen treatment, with a Bluey movie slated for theatrical release in August 2027.
Though it might be a long way off, the popularity of the series indicated that it will be receiving a warm reception when it finally arrives. In August, the show took home its second consecutive Logie award for Best Children's Program, having previously taken out two consecutive trophies under its former title of Most Outstanding Children's Program.
Even now, at the end of 2025, it remains the the the highest-watched series in the US, with the show racking up 55.62 billion viewing minutes in 2024 alone in the US, with the show racking up 55.62 billion viewing minutes in 2024 alone.
Speaking to The Music this week in support of the new album from The Polaroids, one of his myriad musical projects, McCormack explained that both the film and the series’ staying power continues to generate interest around the world.
“There’s so much excitement for the movie,” McCormack explained. “What I've noticed though is I had to do some press for something the other day and people are now asking whether I’m surprised that people are still into Bluey – it’s the first time I've heard still.

“It’s always been, ‘Wow, are you amazed that people love Bluey? Isn’t it incredible?’, but now it's, ‘Are you amazed that people still love Bluey?’, because it's been around a while.
“But yeah, it's the sweetest gig in the world because I don't have to do anything – I just act like myself – and everyone loves the show and, and the people who do it are great,” he continued “And it's all made in Brissie and I'm just going to soak it up. The movie's going to be really good, I know. And people are going to love it, so I'm just along for the ride.
Both McCormack and Melanie Zanetti – the voice of Bandit’s wife, Chilli – are confirmed to appear in the forthcoming film, and though he can’t let any of the plot points slip, it’s clear that all McCormack has to do now is wait for the movie (and its subsequent acclaim) to arrive in due course.
“I think a lot of my stuff's already done,” he explains. “They write it all first obviously, and then they do all the voices and then they have to animate it. And I think the animation takes up the time, that's where the years come into it. A movie is like an hour-and-a-half long, and even with computers or whatever they use, it just takes forever.
“So I think the voices – the part that I do – is the fun bit. I just act like an idiot in the studio and then they cut it all up and make it good. But I think people are going to love it – I know people are going to love it!”
