"I know we said Dark Mofo would stay quiet, but Winter wouldn't feel the same without the chance to feast and frolic during the long Tasmanian nights."

Tasmania’s Dark Mofo—Mona Foma's gothic-inspired sibling—will make a surprise return to Hobart this winter, albeit with a small artist line-up.
This winter’s edition of Dark Mofo celebrates the community aspects of the 11-day event, showcasing local food vendors at the Winter Feast, Namedropping, a new exhibition at the Museum of Old and New Art, the return of the Nude Solstice Swim and its dance programs, late-night parties Night Shift and Slow Burn, and Winter In The Garden.
In September, Dark Mofo’s Artistic Director, Chris Twite, announced that the festival at large would go on hiatus this year and “take stock of changing conditions and rising costs” that the festival faces.
Organisers revealed that the festival itself wouldn’t go ahead as they focus on a “period of renewal”. The festival “intends to reshape a more sustainable model for a full return in 2025 and set the foundation for the next ten years.”
While the main event, which hosted Deafheaven, Black Flag, Ethel Cain, HEALTH, and many more at last year’s event, is off, Dark Mofo came to an agreement with the Tasmanian state government to host the Winter Feast and Nude Solstice this June.
Twite said in a statement about today’s announcement, “I know we said Dark Mofo would stay quiet, but Winter wouldn't feel the same without the chance to feast and frolic during the long Tasmanian nights.

“As the chill of winter creeps in, I know we are already longing to feast, dance and swim together. So, we’re really excited to be able to present these beloved pillars of the festival this June for Tasmanians and all our dedicated Dark Mofo pilgrims.”
Dark Mofo’s 2024 program takes place from 13-23 June. In terms of music, the event has locked in Genesis Owusu and Marlon Williams, as well as DJs set to perform during the dance programs.
The Winter Feast will feature 80 stallholders, including 25 new stallholders from around Lutruwita/Tasmania.
Dark Mofo’s food curator, Amanda Vallis, commented, “We're working hard to ensure that this year's Winter Feast will deliver a fresh and unparalleled celebration of Tasmanian food and wine, highlighting the best winter season produce our state has to offer.”
Tickets for the 2024 Dark Mofo program go on sale at 10 am on Tuesday, 16 April, for festival subscribers and midday for others. You can find more ticketing information and explore the complete program via the Dark Mofo website.
