Rising muso awarded $10,000 to help realise his full-length album vision
Castlemaine-bred troubadour D.D Dumbo, known to his mum as Oliver Perry, has been announced as the recipient of the 2014 Mushroom Music Publishing Recording Grant, becoming only the second artist to be awarded the $10,000 prize.
D.D Dumbo's rising star makes him a natural choice to receive the grant, coming off a batch of warmly received performances at the recent South By Southwest festival/conference as well as significant local and international radio attention for his cover of Roy Orbison's Crying and original single Tropical Oceans.
Having released a self-titled EP last year, D. D. Dumbo now sits on the cusp of bigger things, with impending support slots for St Vincent and Tune-Yards in Australia, Tame Impala in the UK, and appearances scheduled at both Splendour In The Grass and the UK's Latitude festival.
Mark our words: this is a young man destined for prime placement in the upper ranks of a lot of people's "best of" lists this year.

In among those pursuits, though, D.D Dumbo will be turning his attention to crafting his debut full-length album throughout the year, primarily with assistance from his new grant.
The Mushroom Music Publishing Recording Grant was established last year with an aim of helping artists with recording costs. Forming part of Mushroom's wider commitment to artist development, the first MMP Recording Grant was awarded to Melburnian singer-songwriter Fraser A. Gorman.
As well as his appearance at Splendour, D.D Dumbo will be joining US songstress Tune-Yards as support act for her sideshows when she's in the country for the festival.
