Melbourne-based musical enigma Hamish Cowan, best known as the ringleader of Cordrazine, has announced that he’s putting an end to the project once more.

However devastating the news is for fans, Cowan has made it bittersweet by revealing that, after recently returning with their first new music in 15 years, Cordrazine will release their new EP You See In Me on Friday, 5 December.

Their final show, which was already earmarked as an EP launch, will take place at Melbourne’s Northcote Social Club on Friday, 12 December. To say farewell, the final show will feature Cordrazine performing a full-band set, accompanied by special guests Alex Lloyd and USER.

In a statement to fans, Cowan explained that he has a “complicated” relationship with music, and that performing pokes at the fragility in his personality “in a way nothing else does.”

Cowan added that the band is “very proud” of the music they’ve shared with fans, and, instead of fading away, Cordrazine wants to “come together and celebrate the journey” with devoted listeners. You can read his statement below.

Special Announcement - The Cordrazine Launch on December 12th at the Northcote Social Club will be our final show.

It’s no secret, I have a complicated relationship with music. I love singing and making beautiful sounds with my dear friends. Performing however - the build up to a show and then standing before an audience provokes extraordinary stress and anxiety. It pokes all of my fragile parts in a way nothing else does.

Despite this, Cordrazine has endured. We are very proud of the music we produced, and of what we have achieved. That is why, rather than just slipping away, we are making this announcement. We want to come together and celebrate the journey with those of you who have ridden along with us.

We know there are many people scattered across Australia and beyond who will be disappointed they can’t be there. For those in Melbourne, we would love you to join us for what will be an emotional night.

Thank you for supporting us over so many years. We are looking forward to playing for you, one last time.

- Hamish.

Last year, Cordrazine released their first new music in 15 years with the track, Hey Man.

In October 2022, Cordrazine celebrated their 25th anniversary by releasing the first-ever vinyl for their impactful debut album, From Here To Whenever, and their debut EP, Time To Leave, and an anniversary concert in Melbourne.

Cowan, bassist Chris Ambrose, drummer Rohan Heddle, and keyboard player Sam Holloway formed Cordrazine in 1996 and quickly became a part of Melbourne’s music scene.

Cordrazine, at the height of their success, announced their disbandment in November 1998.

The band surprised fans by reforming in 2009. Ambrose did not return, but new members Jethro Woodward, who played bass and backing vocals, and Nick Batterham, who played guitar and backing vocals, joined. Cordrazine released their second album, Always Coming Down, in July 2010.
