Pop star, rock exports break into US market
Gold Coast pop star Cody Simpson has debuted at the impressive position of ten in the US album charts this week with his second album Surfers Paradise – and he's not alone with Sydney pop-rock exports Sick Puppies debuting at 17 with Connect.
Simpson had been tipped for a strong debut in the American market after he made a decent dent in the UK charts earlier this week. The 16-year-old's label, Atlantic, will no doubt be pleased with the position (as will his five million strong online following), which will provide a strong platform for establishing Simpson in the US market.
Currently based in Los Angeles, the run-in for Sick Puppies' new album – their fourth – has been much more under the radar in their home country. Their debut of 17, understood to be their strongest chart position in the US to date, knocked Kanye West's Yeezus to 18. The album is currently number one on the Hard Rock Album Chart.
Aussie megachurch Hillsong's Live: Glorious Ruins has slipped from 60 to 98 in its third week, having peaked at 18, and New Zealand youngster Lorde drops from 52 to 59 in her sixth week.
