Coachella have a reputation to withhold!
Highly-publicised music festival Coachella have hit massive retail fashion chain Urban Outfitters with a lawsuit, alleging that the brand is "capitalising" on the hip festival's brand recognition and image.
As WWD reports, Coachella state Urban Outfitters and their affiliate label Free People are infringing on Coachella's trademarks by improperly selling items of clothing using the Coachella name — including the Coachella boot, Coachella mini dress, Coachella pocket tank and Coachella Valley tunic.
Urban Outfitters claim they're "trading on the goodwill and fame" of Coachella, but the festival state that the fashion chain's "unauthorised apparel" appear when searching for 'Coachella clothing' on Google, ultimately "misdirecting" customers who may be looking for Coachella's legally licensed items with brands like Pandora and H&M.
Coachella also claimed that Urban Outfitters have "ignored Plaintiff's demands to cease their unlawful conduct" which has forced them to file a lawsuit to "protect the famous Coachella marks and to protect the public".
