Coachella Prepares To Postpone 2020 Festival

It's looking more and more likely Coachella Music & Arts Festival will have to postpone its forthcoming event due to the growing threat of coronavirus. 

Multiple sources have told Rolling Stone that "organisers are in talks to delay the festival until October, as the US reports new coronavirus cases".

These sources have alleged the cancellation of SXSW "really changed everyone's tune".

Another source allegedly reported Coachella had "confirmed" postponement with their agency but did not provide any further details.

Billboard is reporting organisers should know the festival's future in 48 hours.

AEG, the company that runs the festival, has not issued a public statement nor responded to comment.

The annual festival is currently scheduled to take place over two weekends in April in Indio, California. 

The newly reformed Rage Against The Machine were due to headline both weekends alongside Travis Scott and Frank Ocean. 

The preparations come after a petition was launched on change.org a week ago calling for the event's cancellation. 

"As a highly inclusive community, we are responsible to protect each and every community member," the petition reads. 

At the time of writing, it has just under 20,000 signatures. 

A similar petition was launched ahead of SXSW's official cancellation. 

Elsewhere in the States, the Winter Music Conference, scheduled to go ahead in late March in Miami, has also been cancelled. 

"After spending the past ten months preparing for the event with our team, panelists and event partners, we are profoundly disappointed, however, there is nothing more important than the health, safety and physical well-being of our attendees and employees," a statement on the conference's website reads.

Locally, Miley Cyrus has just cancelled her Australian show "in response to the current global health crisis".
