In September, a teaser for Emerald Fennell’s take on Wuthering Heights dropped, featuring Charli XCX’s beloved track Everything is Romantic.
Now, it seems that the Brat hitmaker has significantly contributed to the film soundtrack, unveiling a teaser for a new song called House—Charli’s first release since the drop of her Brat remix album in October 2024—starring The Velvet Underground’s John Cale.
In a lengthy statement posted on her Instagram Stories, Charli XCX explained that she continuously returned to a phrase John Cale used in a Velvet Underground documentary: that songs had to be both “elegant and brutal”—an inspiration she took with her for the Wuthering Heights soundtrack.
The Wuthering Heights reboot will feature movie stars Margot Robbie as Catherine and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff. At the time of publication, no release date has been announced.
House will be released on Monday, 10 November. You can check out the teaser below.

“I got a call from Emerald Fennell last Christmas asking whether I would consider working on a song for her adaptation of Wuthering Heights,” Charli wrote.
Charli explained that after reading the script, she and collaborator Finn Keane started working on “many songs” that they felt were connected to the world Fennell created in the film.
“After being so in the depths of my previous album, I was excited to escape into something entirely new, entirely opposite,” she continued.
“When I think of Wuthering Heights, I think of many things. I think of passion and pain. I think of England. I think of the Moors, I think of the mud and the cold. I think of determination and grit.”
Discussing The Velvet Underground’s impact on her songwriting, Charli added, “A few years ago, I watched Todd Haynes' documentary about The Velvet Underground. As many of you know, I'm a huge fan of the band and was really taken by the documentary.
“One thing that stuck with me was how John Cale described a key sonic requirement of The Velvet Underground. That any song had to be both ‘elegant and brutal’. I got really stuck on that phrase. I wrote it down in my notes app and would pull it up from time to time and think about what he meant. When working on music for this film, ‘elegant and brutal’ was a phrase I kept coming back to.”
Charli and Keane then wrote the “bones” for the song that became House. After ruminating on Cale’s words further, she reached out to him to hear his opinion on her music and see if he’d be interested in collaborating.
“We got connected, we spoke on the phone and wow ... that voice, so elegant, so brutal,” Charli explained. “I sent him some songs, and we started talking specifically about House. We spoke about the idea of a poem. He recorded something and sent it to me. Something that only John could do. And it was ... well, it made me cry.
“I feel so lucky to have been able to work with John on this song. I've been so excited to share it with you all, sitting quietly in anticipation. And on Monday, it's yours.
“Love you all, let's fall in love again and again.”

In October, the cast for the Charli XCX-starring and produced film, The Moment, was revealed.
The Moment is based on an original idea by Charli. The singer also stars in the movie, which, according to Deadline, “follows a rising pop star as she navigates the complexities of fame and industry pressure while preparing for her arena-tour debut.”
The film will star American comedians Kate Berlant and Rachel Sennott, as well as Alexander Skarsgård (The Northman, True Blood, Succession), Rosanna Arquette (Desperately Seeking Susan), Jamie Demetriou (Fleabag, Stath Lets Flats), and others, along with Charli’s music collaborators, Shygirl and A.G. Cook.
Set to arrive in 2026 via production house A24, Charli unveiled the teaser last month.
