Carriageworks announced it has entered voluntary administration this week.

Sydney Opera House has confirmed it has been approached by the NSW Government to "consult on the long term sustainability" of local multi-purpose venue Carriageworks.

Following yesterday's news, in which the Eveleigh space confirmed it had entered voluntary administration due to "an irreparable loss of income" on the back of the COVID pandemic, bodies including Media Entertainment Arts Alliance (MEAA) and Live Performance Australia (LPA) called on the NSW Government to step in and save the venue.

On Tuesday, The Sydney Morning Herald reported that the Sydney Opera House had been contacted by the state Government about Carriageworks' future.

“We were deeply saddened to hear of Carriageworks Ltd going into voluntary administration," a Sydney Opera House spokesperson told The Music in a statement.

“The Opera House has been approached by the NSW Government to consult on the long-term sustainability of Carriageworks as an important cultural venue, particularly at this most difficult time for the arts."

Carriageworks has hosted a number of major shows in conjunction with events like Vivid and Sydney Festival, including RÜFÜS DU SOL, FKA Twigs, St Vincent, Goldfrapp, Gotye and Grace Jones.
