Melbourne boy Vance Joy faces an uphill battle to hold onto his number one spot on the ARIA Albums Chart this week with The Madden Brothers breathing down his neck.
According to midweek chart figures Vance’s Dream Your Life Away and current number two Jimmy Barnes’ 30:30 Hindsight are well and truly in the sights of The Madden Brothers’ Greetings From California. Australia’s become a big market for the Madden Brothers, with Joel Madden appearing as a guest judge on reality TV show The Voice, and they will be expecting a strong debut.
Another album in the mix for the top spots is Slash featuring Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators’ World On Fire, which drops alongside the announcement that Slash will play the NRL grand final this year. Sam Smith announced a return to Australia this week and his album In The Lonely Hour is pushing into the top five from its current position of sixth.
The biggest Australian challenger this week is Megan Washington with There There, who changed management and was the subject of an Australian Story documentary in the lead-up. At this stage There There is looking like a top five contender but that could change with a push in the last few days of the week.
Top 50 debuts are also expected from Train’s Bulletproof Picasso and Motionless In White’s Reincarnate.
Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off is under threat in the number one spot on the ARIA Singles Chart, with Meghan Trainor’s All About That Bass pushing hard from the second spot – this could be the week it retakes the summit.
Sigma’s Changing and Fences featuring Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ Arrows will debut in the top 50 with Nathaniel’s Love Louder and Calvin Harris featuring John Newman’s Blame experiencing sales boosts.
