Calexico Announce First Album In Four Years

The band have signed with Anti- and wrote the record in New Orleans.

Alt.country favourites Calexico have today announced their first album in four years, with the band also signing to Anti- to release Algiers.

Based around core members Joey Burns and John Convertino, the two moved to New Orleans with co-producer Craig Schumacher for the majority of the record's recording, living and working out of a converted church. The album is named after the suburb the church is located in.

Burns said of the town, "The place is strong and bold, soulful to the core, but surrounded by a sea of darkness. There's something creepy and old on the edge of town and written throughout the town's histories. Those kinds of aesthetics help with the writing."

The record will be released 14 September through Anti- parent Epitaph and distributors Warner. It will be teir first studio record since 2008's lauded Carried To Dust.
