With the belly-aching laughter of over 40,000 people

Brisbane Comedy Festival has smashed all its records in 2016, with its biggest revenue and turnout numbers in its 10-year history.

Presented by Brisbane Powerhouse and The Comedy Channel, this year's event saw unprecedented crowds of over 40,000 people flock to see an impressive line-up of more than 45 comedians across 238 shows spread around the city.

Brisbane Powerhouse Artistic Director Kris Stewart said she is constantly amazed at the festival's ability to grow.

"Brisbane audiences love a laugh and we're proud to provide an event of this scale that has people coming back year after year and sells a bunch of tickets for the artists involved," Stewart effused in a statement.

"Brisbane Comedy Festival completes our early-year festival season, so it has been a busy start to the year, but also an extremely rewarding one," she continued.

This year's programme included both international stalwarts and local household names like Danny Bhoy, David O'Doherty, Tom Green, Wil Anderson, Tom Gleeson, Peter Helliar, Mel Buttle and Dave Thornton, as well as lauded theatrical productions such as Titanic: The Movie The Play and the locally made Brisbane Born & Bread, plus free weekly events such as Knockoff and Martini Time.
