More Brian Eno More Brian Eno

The documentary about the pioneering musician and producer Brian Eno isn’t your regular watch, nor has it received the usual rollout during its promotional run.

Eno has received the unique 24 Hours Of Eno livestream, set to take place on Friday, 24 January, from noon EST (that’s 4 am AEDT on Saturday, 25 January). The documentary airs one year after its premiere at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival. Since its premiere, Eno has only been available to watch in theatres and live screenings.

The upcoming livestream event marks Eno’s global streaming premiere. You can check out the trailer below and purchase tickets for $24 USD here.

Director Gary Hustwit and digital artist Brendan Dawes created the first-ever career-spanning documentary about Brian Eno, but with a twist: Eno is different every time it screens.

Utilising a “human-coded generative software platform,” Eno features the subject’s “staggering” archive of never-before-seen footage, unreleased music, and exclusive interviews. Each screening presents different scenes in different orders, with different music playing throughout.

“Billions” of possible variations are offered through each screening of the documentary film. For the 24-hour streaming event, viewers will experience multiple versions of the documentary through curated visions generated “around the clock.”

The streaming event follows the news that Eno was recently shortlisted for this year’s Academy Awards for Best Documentary Feature. At the Cinema Eye Honors, the film nabbed five nominations: Best Director, Best Editing, Best Visual Design, Best Sound Design, and Best Subject.

A founding member of the iconic British band Roxy Music, Eno is also recognised for his experimental approaches to music, video, and light. As a producer, he’s brought out the best in Coldplay, Talking Heads, U2, Devo, and others. He’s collaborated with the likes of David Bowie, David Byrne, Fred again.., and many more. Eno’s most recent album, FOREVERANDEVERNOMORE, was released in October 2022.

Meanwhile, Hustwit has produced more than 20 documentaries and film projects, with subjects including Wilco, Mavis Staples, Animal Collective, and more.
