Some of the world's finest DJs and producers are going to make the people of Perth dance like never before this Boxing Day.
Western Australia's biggest celebration of broken beat music, Breakfest, is back again in 2012 and once more the organisers have amanged to put together a line up that features some mighty fine names from across the breakbeat, drum 'n bass, hip hop, funk and bass genres.
The festival happens on Boxing Day, Wednesday 26 December, in the gorgeous Belvoir Ampitheatre and the line up sounds like this:
Krafty Kuts, A Skillz, DJ Yoda, Lady Waks, The Nextmen, Jaguar Skills, Specimen A, Pyramid, Marten Hørger, High Contrast, Camo & Krooked, Spy, MC Wrec
KRAFTY KUTS:
Don't miss a beat with our FREE daily newsletter
This British producer is one of the most loved hip hop influenced breakbeat artists on the planet, his enormous list of credits really speaks for itself, with a whole swag of singles as well as remixes for some of the best in the business. Australian audiences particularly love Krafty Kuts' work, so his return will be a very welcome one, particularly given he's going to be here with one of his regular collaborators and good friends...
A SKILLZ:
A Skillz and Krafty Kuts complement each other utter perfectly and this December it will be a real treat to have the opportunity to witness them both at Breakfest. He was recently awarded the title of Best DJ at the Breakspoll International Breakbeat Awards, and you can see why this Boxing Day.
DJ YODA:
Another great British artist, DJ Yoda has been keeping us amused with his unique take on the hip hop genre for the best part of 15 years now. His DJ Yoda & Friends EP of 2011 was great, but it's the last we've heard of him; make sure you convince him to drop some new shit if you see him pottering around Breakfest this year.
LADY WAKS:
Russian sensation Lady Waks makes her way to Perth to help the people of that city have the best Boxing Day party possible, proving to us that her country well and truly have their finger on the pulse as far as electronic dance music goes. She's hard working as well as very naturally gifted and you will see this for yourself when she has you up and dancing this December.
THE NEXTMEN:
These two British blokes have been responsible for some mighty fine tunes over the past few years, both on their own records and in collaboration with others. The Nextmen have a great ear for hip hop, soul and club music and they'll bring a real sense of class to proceedings at this year's Breakfest.
JAGUAR SKILLS:
The brilliant cut-and-paste DJing skills of Jaguar Skills need to be seen to be believed; this artist can work with any nuimber of different musical styles and pulls it off with aplomb. Have a look around for some of his mixes and prepare to be blown away when you see him do it live!
SPECIMEN A:
Concerned there won't be a lot of dubstep at this year's Breakfest? You need not be, Specimen A are going to make sure there are enough drops to go around! This trio don 't just do dubstep though, they smash together a wide variety of breakbeat and drum'n'bass influences to come up with something that is going to make you go bananas when it's blaring out the PA this Boxing Day.
PYRAMID:
Originally rooted in breakbeat, their sound has evolved into a melting pot of beats and basslines set at around 140bpm. Be it breaks, dubstep or anything in between, these guys are hot property right now with production work being commissioned non-stop by Polydor's latest signing Roxxxan, Mercury's Dot Rotten alongside TMS, Sony's latest sensation Jagga, Tiesto's Black Hole imprint and dubstep giants Dub Police.
MARTEN HØRGER:
People really love Marten Hørgerand it's not hard to see why after witnessing one of his shows. Breakfest headliner Krafty Kuts is one of the many outspoken supporters of this artist and we reckon the people of Perth are going to be pretty excited to welcome him back to their city this year.
One of the most exciting things about this year's Breakfest is the new Hospitality stage, which brings together some of the finest artists from the Hospital Records stable.
HIGH CONTRAST:
This Welsh drum'n'bass legend just keeps getting more and more popular as the years go on. He first made a name for himself for his work at club nights around Cardiff but by 2002 High Contrast had released his debut album and blowing minds well beyond his hometown. His latest record, this year's The Agony & The Ecstacy, performed quite nicely in the UK charts, and his visit to Australia sees him continue his worldwide assault.
CAMO & KROOKED:
Austrian young guns Camo & Krooked are unstoppable right now; last year they picked up the coveted Best Producer award at the Drum and Bass Arena Awards and we get the feeling they are just getting started. They made their Hospital Records debut with 2011'sCross The Line, a record that made plenty of people take notice of these guys and one which you ough tto get familiar with before Breakfest.
S.P.Y.
We're pretty sure things are going to get mighty epic when S.P.Y. hits the Hospitality stage at this year's Breakfest. No self-respecting junglist will miss this guy; the Sao Paolo-bred, but now London-based artist smashes out music that can be dark, anthemic, explosive, weird and still very dancefloor friendly most of the time. Keep your ears out for his debut album which should be dropping soon as well.
MC WREC:
You couldn't have a Hospital Records stage without their resident MC, could you? MC Wrec has been spitting rhymes for 16 years and will make sure you have a good time whether you like it or not!
