Bonnie Tyler‘80s pop music icon Bonnie Tyler has been placed into an induced coma following emergency intestinal surgery, representatives for the singer confirmed.
On Wednesday (6 May), it was reported that Tyler, age 74, had been rushed to a hospital close to her home in Faro, Portugal, for the operation. At the time, it was said that she was recuperating. However, a spokesperson for the singer gave an update on Thursday, which said she was in an induced coma to “aid her recovery.”
“Bonnie has been put into an induced coma by her doctors to aid her recovery,” a spokesperson for the singer said, per The Guardian.
They continued, “We know that you all wish her well and ask for privacy at this difficult time, please. We will issue a further statement when we are able to.”
On Wednesday, Tyler’s team revealed that she had been admitted to the hospital for emergency intestinal surgery.
“We are very sorry to announce that Bonnie has been admitted to the hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she has a home, for emergency intestinal surgery,” the statement read.
“The surgery went well, and she is now recuperating.
“We know that all of her family, friends and fans will be concerned about this news and will be wishing her well for a full and swift recovery.”
Known for hits such as Total Eclipse of the Heart and Holding Out for a Hero, Tyler is a Grammy-nominated star and received an MBE for her services to music in 2023.

Tyler was set to make her long-awaited return to Australia last year on the Timeless Summer Tour, where she would have shared the stage with Boy George, Tony Hadley, and Starship’s Mickey Thomas. However, the events were cancelled, with promoters citing a difficult financial climate.
Bonnie Tyler last toured Australia in 2017, when she performed at the Blues on Broadbeach Festival and headlined grand venues such as Hamer Hall in Melbourne and the Enmore Theatre in Sydney.
