BlondieBlondie singer Debbie Harry will soon return to the screen. She’s set to feature in the comedy film, Maitreya, alongside Pamela Anderson.
While she’s best known as the vocalist and co-founder of Blondie, Harry embarked on an acting career during the band’s early ‘80s hiatus, taking lead roles in the neo-noir film Union City and in David Cronenberg’s body-horror film Videodrome. She also starred in John Waters’ musical film, Hairspray, in 1988.
In the early ‘90s, she returned to acting, appearing in the horror movie Body Bags, directed by John Carpenter, as well as the drama Heavy. She’s appeared in plenty of other films, in addition to television roles in Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Absolutely Fabulous, RuPaul’s Drag Race, and more.
Deadline reports that shooting for the new film is expected to begin in late 2026. The publication notes that Emmy-nominated director Jonathan Krisel (Portlandia) will direct the film, while BAFTA-nominated writer Samuel D. Hunter (The Whale) has penned the script. Producers attached to the project include Bert Hamelinck, Michael Sagol, Allison Hironaka, and Danica Radovanov.
The film’s synopsis reads:
Maitreya (Anderson) is a rising star in the New Age Healing community who is about to head off to a conference in India when she receives a call from her estranged sister, Monica: their father is dying. Rather than stay home with him, Maitreya decides to bring her entire family – including her mother Barbara (Harry) – to the conference and put her New Age healing theories to the test (all while surreptitiously gathering material for her next book).

Michael Sagol, producer and Managing Director at the independent film studio Caviar, said of the film, “Being a part of bringing Maitreya to life with Jon and Sam has been so much fun already.
“After working together in the branded world for the past decade, now having the chance to produce Jon’s first feature film – a soulful exploration of a dysfunctional family, perfectly suited to his absurdist and distinctive comedic voice – makes us giddy with excitement!”
Debbie Harry is one busy woman—Blondie are expected to release a new album, High Noon, in 2026. The record is set to feature drums recorded by Clem Burke before his passing last April, exactly 50 years after he joined Blondie.
