Green DayThis year marks a milestone year for The Ramones, and to celebrate, a special tribute is on the way.
Taking place at Hollywood Forever Cemetery next month – Sunday, 30 August – the annual tribute event for Johnny Ramone will commemorate the 50th anniversary of The Ramones’ self-titled debut album.
Performing as Cretin Family, a supergroup starring Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, blink-182’s Travis Barker, Rancid’s Tim Armstrong, and the Ramones’ CJ Ramone will join forces for their first-ever concert, making for an extra-special Hollywood Forever Johnny Ramone Tribute.
Throughout the night, surprise special guests will also play a set of Ramones songs. Hollywood actor John Travolta will host the event and, in addition to live music, screenings of Carrie (50th Anniversary Deluxe edition) and Travolta’s new film, Propeller One-Way Night Coach, will be shown.
Proceeds from the concert will go towards David Agus MD Cancer Research at the Ellison Institute. Fans can purchase tickets here.
Discussing his appearance in the supergroup, Billie Joe Armstrong said, “The spirit of the Ramones is alive in every backyard punk show, punk club and festival. Generation after generation of cretins and weirdos become Ramones lovers. Kids are influenced by the Ramones, and they don’t even know it yet. ¡Viva Ramones!”

Tim Armstrong commented, “From the moment I first heard the RAMONES, music was never the same. They are my favorite [sic] band of all time! I can’t wait to play those great and perfect RAMONES songs with my friends CJ, Travis and Billie. It’s gonna be wild!”
CJ Ramone concluded, “This is gonna be the biggest celebration of the Ramones anyone has seen for a long time!!!”
