Beyoncé Bounces To First Australian #1

Beyoncé is celebrating her first Australia number one as post-Christmas sales rebounded her self-titled record to the top rung.

The album, which was surprise released just before Christmas, debuted a two a couple of weeks ago, before falling to third last week. This week it jumps Katy Perry's Prism, which stays at two, and Michael Buble's Christmas, which unsurprisingly plummets 35 spots to 36.

Previously Beyoncé has had three albums peak at two, as did her earlier group Destiny's Child.

Buble's Christmas is the first album in ARIA history to go to #1 in three consecutive years, but it also breaks another record this week – the biggest ever single week drop from #1. That was previously held by Kiss' Psycho Circus in 1998, which fell to 33. In previous years after Christmas Buble had fallen to 29 and 28 from the top spot.

Similar to the US, New Zealander Lorde has also had a post-Christmas bump as fans cash in their gift cards. Her album Pure Heroine jumped from nine to three – the first time it has been in the top five since mid-November. It has spent 14 weeks in the chart, all of which have been in the top ten.

In the quietest week of the year for new releases the only two new debuts in the top 100 came from soundtracks – Frozen at 27 and The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty at 47.

The ARIA Singles chart was far more static this week, with the only change in the top ten being Pharrell Williams' Happy going to number one from two by swapping places with Jason Derulo's Trumpets.

Williams topped the chart last year via his guest spots on Daft Punk's Get Lucky and Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines.
