The Simpsons ProfileAustralian animators Paul Robertson and Ivan Dixon, of Melbourne-based company Rubber House Studios, have teamed up with fellow Melburnian and musician Jeremy Dower to recreate the iconic opening sequence of The Simpsons… entirely in pixel art.
In a project that is sure to awaken nostalgic, arcade-driven memories for fans of the show old enough to have sunk tokens into the side-scrolling Simpsons game of yore, the team has assembled a deceptively smooth reworking of the opening credits (save the occasional cheat; we note there's no hallway sequence when Lisa leaves the band room, but we're nitpicking) replete with extravagant couch gag, featuring some wonderful blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearances: muu-muu-clad Homer and "I wash myself with a rag on a stick" future Bart from King Size Homer, other past and future incarnations of the characters (including high-school Homer and Marge, peanut butter-and-gum-haired Lisa and A Clockwork Orange Bart), various Stonecutters, Blinky the fish, Marge's "Homer" bowling ball, the Springfield Monorail, Ringo Starr, Mr Sparkle (aka Fishbulb), Kang and Kodos, and the not-seen-for-decades Space Mutants, among other momentary stars.
