It looks like beloved US comedy rockers Tenacious D are preparing to announce an Australian tour.
In a social media post shared by Frontier Touring yesterday, the tour promoters hinted at an upcoming tour announcement that featured an animated boulder bounding down towards a man wearing a hat. The caption reads, “The greatest and best band in the world... ”, referencing the band’s beloved 2006 single Tribute. You can check out the post below.
Tenacious D last toured in Australia in May 2013. Before then, they opened for Foo Fighters in massive venues down under in 2011.
Since their last visit to Australia, the duo comprising comedy actors Jack Black and Kyle Gass released their fourth album, Post-Apocalypto, in November 2018. The album was accompanied by the YouTube series Tenacious D in Post-Apocalypto.
Last year, Tenacious D premiered a pair of new songs at Shaky Knees Festival in the US: Video Games and The Spicy Meatball Song. From May through to October 2023, Tenacious D played in venues across the US on the Spicy Meatball Tour.
The music video for Video Games paid tribute to beloved video games for Millennials and Gen Z, including Red Dead Redemption 2, Super Mario Bros, Sonic The Hedgehog, and Fallout 4, to name a few.

“It’s about growing up and leaving childish things behind…” Black and Gass remarked in a statement. “But then realising that video games are more than just mindless toys….in fact they can be a true expression of huge ideas that belong in the pantheon of great works of art!
“It’s about time someone defended the honour and integrity of this bold new horizon. Leave it to the greatest band in the world…Tenacious D!!!”
In July 2021, Tenacious D dropped a cover of an Abbey Road classic, You Never Give Me Your Money/The End. The comedy rockers released the song as a charity single to benefit Doctors Without Borders.
Almost immediately, their cover garnered the attention of an actual Beatle, with Paul McCartney jumping on the bandwagon and sharing the tune on his official Facebook page.
"This Tenacious D cover of our song is fantastic!" McCartney wrote. "It’s so imaginative and so well performed. What a great tribute to the original. Guys - I love it. Check it out!"
