Who’s ready for the #VAPRAs?

The performers for this year’s online APRA Music Awards have been revealed, with some of the country’s best acts set to soundtrack the May 25 event, as curated by Kate Miller-Heidke.

Determined to celebrate the achievements of Australian musicians and beyond, APRA AMCOS made the announcement back in March that for the first time ever, due to the COVID pandemic, its annual awards would take place online.

With Aussie hip hop artist Briggs already locked down to host, viewers will also be treated to a stack of the great performances across the event.

Most Performed Blues and Root nominee John Butler will be joined by Mama Kin “for a very special performance”, while Kira Puru teams with Mo’Ju (formerly known as Mojo Juju) to take on one of the APRA Song of the Year tracks.

The exciting collaborations continue, with R&B singer-songwriter Nikka Costa and Grammy-nominated producer, composer and musician Justin Stanley coming together, with William Crighton and New York-based Aussie artist The Dawn Of MAY also confirmed, the latter of which makes her APRA Music Awards debut.

This year’s performers announcement is also accompanied by the first two award winners being revealed, with Shallow from Bradley Cooper’s A Star is Born remake taking out Most Performed International Work, while the APRA Licensee of the Year award goes to Victorian event Meredith Music Festival.

“The Meredith Music Festival is proud to play the role that it does in the songwriter’s ecosystem,” Meredith Music Festival said.

“Like everyone, we are looking forward to the time when we can again see, hear and feel those wonderful songs in the flesh again. A full-sensory inhalation would be nice, wouldn’t it? Very best of luck to all the songwriters and artists at this time, and to those who work and play with them.”

The 2020 Virtual APRA Music Awards will kick off at 7pm on May 25 via HYVIO’s global streaming platform.
