An intimate collection of stunning Amy Winehouse photos captured by renowned international photographer Charles Moriarty that found a “moment in time” is coming to Australia.
Amy, Before Frank is coming to Sydney in October and Melbourne in November. The exhibition is a personal tribute to Winehouse by Moriarty – his timeless collection showcases a 19-year-old Amy Winehouse on the cusp of superstardom before she released her debut album, Frank.
Moriarty, a longtime friend of Winehouse’s, collected the Amy, Before Frank photos and will display the iconic blues singer as she was at the time: fun, cheeky, bashful, charming, and emotional.
“It’s time for people to know the girl I knew; Amy before the fame, Amy before Frank,” Moriarty said about why he’s bringing the intimate exhibition to Australia.
Over 30 images will be displayed at Sydney’s m2 Gallery in the suburb of Surry Hills from Wednesday, 18 October until Sunday, 22 October.
The exhibition is free of charge for attendees and is open from 10 am until 5 pm each day. Punters who attend on the Saturday can hear from Moriarty himself from 12:30 pm as he shares anecdotes about the period alongside Winehouse.

Amy, Before Frank then travels to Melbourne from Wednesday, 1 November, until Sunday, 5 November. The exhibition lands at the Oshi Gallery in Collingwood and shares the same opening and closing hours as Sydney, with Moriarty appearing in Melbourne on Saturday, 4 November, at 12:30 pm.
The exhibition is presented by Behind The Gallery and also arrives at the time when Winehouse’s debut album turns 20.
Behind The Gallery’s Stephen Dallimore revealed in a statement, “Charles captured the innocence, honesty, happiness of Amy before the cusp of fame happened.
“The trust in the shots of Amy from Charles is based upon friendship and not something we have seen like this before. It’s a side of Amy rarely shown before, and we can't wait to share it with everyone in Australia.”
In August 2021, a documentary about the singer, Amy Winehouse & Me: Dionne’s Story, aired in Australia and around the world. In the documentary, Winehouse's goddaughter Dionne Bromfield paid tribute to the late singer and examined the impact of her death at age 27 in 2011.
Bromfield explained in a press release, “I hope this documentary shows Amy as more than just a person struggling with addiction and instead showcases the amazing person my godmother was”.
