Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has gotten involved in the fun, revealing his votes for triple j’s Hottest 100 of Australian Songs.

Of course, this isn’t the first time that Albo has publicly shared his choices for a Hottest 100 countdown, but seeing as this one is all-Australian, everyone’s list has become more interesting. And, Albo will talk about music whenever he can, even crashing an interview with Blondie’s Debbie Harry to express his fandom last year.

“Hard to narrow down to just 10,” he captioned his post on social media on Wednesday (2 July). Sporting Australian rock bands such as Midnight Oil, You Am I, Cold Chisel, and more, here’s Albo’s list:

Albo’s Hottest 100 of Australian Songs List:

The Angels - Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again

Cold Chisel - Flame Trees

The Fauves - Dogs Are The Best People

The Go-Betweens - Cattle and Cane

You Am I - Purple Sneakers

Hunters & Collectors - Throw Your Arms Around Me

The Triffids - Wide Open Road

Spiderbait - Buy Me a Pony

Midnight Oil - Beds Are Burning

Paul Kelly - How To Make Gravy

As part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, triple j will host the Hottest 100 of Australian Songs this month. Voting opened in mid-June – you can have your say here until voting closes on Thursday, 17 July, at 5 pm AEST.

The countdown will take place on Saturday, 26 July, from 10 am AEST, with the Hottest 100 of Australian Songs airing across the entire triple j network. You can listen on triple j, Double J, triple j Unearthed, and triple j Hottest.

The upcoming countdown celebrates the artists and tracks created in our own backyard that have had a lasting impact on the Australian audience. You’ll be able to vote for classics and modern anthems, as long as the songs you’re voting for were released before triple j’s 50th birthday (19 January 2025).
