Turnstile, 100 gecs, slowthai, Yard Act, and more!
People who don't want to buy Laneway Festival tickets to see Turnstile, don't worry. Your time has arrived: the sideshows are here. Pre-sale tickets are on sale Thursday, 17 November, 10 am (local time) and the general public on sale Friday, 18 November, 10 am (local time).
The Baltimore hardcore band have stretched genre boundaries, reawakened a hunger for heavy music in the mainstream with their 2018 record, Time & Space, and blew our socks off with GLOW ON in August 2021. The album kept fans guessing and produced the eternal bangers HOLIDAY and BLACKOUT. Turnstile will rock Melbourne's Northcote Theatre on Friday, 3 February, and Sydney's Metro Theatre on Thursday, 9 February.
The latest darlings of post-punk, Leeds group Yard Act had just three shows under the belt pre-Covid times and emerged with a label imprint, and a string of increasingly hyped, hilariously dark singles in their arsenal. Their debut album, The Overload, released in January, is one of the most-hyped records of the year. Yard Act will deliver their must-see shows to audiences at the Night Cat in Melbourne and Oxford Art Factory in Sydney.
Alt-pop artist girl in red also joins in the sideshow fun, performing headline dates at Melbourne's 170 Russell on Wednesday, 1 February, and Sydney's Metro Theatre on Monday, 6 February. Australian audiences will get to witness tunes from her debut and triple j feature album, if I could make it go quiet, live for the first time. Since her last appearance down under, girl in red has amassed over 1.85 billion streams.
Ireland's favourite sons Fontaines D.C. have been planning to land on our shores since 2020. All tickets to their debut Australian shows were sold out in 2020, so today's sideshow announcement is for New Zealand fans. Aussie fans who don't have access to the previously announced sideshows better not miss their Laneway Festival set, as that's the best (and likely) only way to witness cuts from Dogrel, A Hero's Death, and their 2022 album, Skinty Fia.

The love 'em or hate 'em 100 gecs will also make their Australian headline show debut around their Laneway Festival appearances. The TikTok beloved, hyperpop pioneering act led by Laura Les and Dylan Brady have intimate shows lined up for Melbourne and Sydney; like Turnstile, you can catch 100 gecs at Northcote Theatre and the Metro Theatre.
The Backseat Lovers deliver heart-on-your-sleeve anthems for a generation unafraid to bare our souls. The Salt Lake City-based band are promoting their second album, Waiting To Spill, to audiences at the Corner Hotel in Melbourne and the Factory Theatre in Sydney.
Fred Again.. is leading one of the most-anticipated tours of 2023 and announced headline Australian tour dates alongside performing at Laneway Festival. He will perform at The Forum in Melbourne on 1 February and The Enmore Theatre in Sydney on 7 February. His latest album, Actual Life, pushes forward the heritage of UK dance music while reflecting on intimate moments with friends, relationships, love, life and epic dancefloor moments.
Knucks, the latest leader of hip-hop, will take his innovative soundscapes, melding together sax-infused melodies, jazzy piano samples and synth textures, all complimented with hard-hitting 808 beats and staggering drill rhythms to the Croxton Bandroom in Melbourne and the Metro Theatre in Sydney.
Northampton hip-hop icon slowthai is known for his versatility in the genre and presents a distinctively unique sound, a hybrid between early grime influence and a coarseness comparable to the London Calling era of punk. Unafraid to speak his mind, on 2021's TYRON, he also bared his soul, delving into his turbulent upbringing, political beliefs and mental health. Don't miss the shows at Sydney's Metro Theatre and Melbourne's 170 Russell.
The inimitable Ross From Friends, who delivers jazz, techno and ambient music to house and disco, and expertly packages them up into something warm, emotional and dancefloor-ready, is promoting his new album, Tread. Fans can head to Melbourne's 170 Russell and Sydney's Metro Theatre for intimate sideshows.
