Fountains Of Wayne Co-founder Adam Schlesinger Passes Away

The US songwriter was 52.

Adam Schlesinger, co-founder of US power-pop band Fountains Of Wayne, has passed away at the age of 52. 

According to Rolling Stone, the New York artist's lawyer confirmed he passed on Wednesday from complications related to coronavirus.

Schlesinger was recently hospitalised after testing positive to the virus.


As well as co-founding Fountains Of Wayne in 1995, who received two Grammy awards in 2003 for Best New Artist and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for their hit track, Stacy's Mom, Schlesinger formed two other bands, Ivy and super group Tinted Windows, which also featured The Smashing Pumpkins' James Iha and Taylor Hanson of Hanson.

In 1997, the New York-born songwriter also scored an Oscar and Golden Globe nomination for writing the title track for Tom Hanks' directorial debut, That Thing You Do, as well as two other songs in the film.

Schlesinger also wrote original music for the 2001 film Josie & The Pussycats and 2007's Music & Lyrics, as well as working with Stephen Colbert for eight songs as part of the 2008 special, A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift Of All!   

He won Emmy Awards for songs written for the Tony Awards in both 2012 and 2013, and picked up a third for his work as composer and executive music producer for his work on TV show Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. He also co-wrote the score for the Broadway adaptation of Cry-Baby, which saw him get a Tony nomination. 

Fountains Of Wayne released five studio albums together, with the latest being 2011's Sky Full Of Holes.
