We could be watching a biopic about Sinéad O’Connor soon.
As Variety reports, the Irish production company ie: entertainment is involved in the project alongside fellow Irish company Nine Daughters, as well as See-Saw Films.
ie: entertainment notably executive-produced the Nothing Compares documentary about O’Connor, with her input throughout the process. Originally written and performed by Prince, Nothing Compares 2 U is Sinéad O’Connor’s most well-known song.
The reported biopic is set to examine O’Connor’s early life and her beginnings within the music industry, while exploring how a young woman from Dublin took over the world with her talent and activism, such as calling attention to allegations of abuse by the Catholic Church and the Magdalene Laundries in Ireland.
There’s a chance that the reported biopic has been in the works since the Nothing Compares documentary, which was released in 2022. If a film is indeed on the way, it comes following Sinéad O’Connor’s passing in July 2023 at the age of 56. Her cause of death was reported to be chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma.

According to Variety, the biopic has stacks of talent attached to it, including director Josephine Decker, writer Stacey Gregg, producers Fodhla Cronin O’Reilly, Neil Chordia, Iain Canning and Emile Sherman, as well as executive producer Tim Clark (serving on behalf of ie: entertainment). BBC Film is reportedly funding the movie’s development.
Sinéad O’Connor released ten studio albums throughout her musical career, with her final record, I’m Not Bossy, I’m The Boss, released in August 2014.
While she undoubtedly influenced people in music who didn’t fit in and inspired fans looking for a different kind of protest singer, O’Connor was also a controversial figure due to her strong beliefs and willingness to act on them in public spaces.
After her passing, singer Tori Amos wrote that O’Connor was “A brilliant songwriter & performer whose talent we will not see the like of again. Such passion, such intense presence & a beautiful soul, who battled her own personal demons courageously.”
