Announced at an event in Sydney today.

The 2019 ARIA Awards nominations are in and newcomer Tones & I leads the pack with a whopping eight nominations.

The Byron Bay via Melbourne artist (real name Toni Watson) has been nominated for Best Female Artist, Breakthrough Artist, Best Pop Release and Best Independent Release, as well as picking up nominations in the Artisan Award categories Engineer Of The Year (Konstantin Kersting) and Producer Of The Year (Konstantin Kersting).

Watson has also picked up nominations in the publicly voted Best Video and Song Of The Year categories for her global hit Dance Monkey.

Hilltop Hoods and The Teskey Brothers have both picked up seven nominations each, including the coveted Album Of The Year. Joining them in the category is Thelma Plum for Better In Blak, RÜFÜS DU SOL for Solace and Dean Lewis' A Place We Knew. Plum has picked up a total of six nominations for her debut album, as has Julia Jacklin for Crushing

Speaking to The Music at the ARIA nominations launch today, Plum said she "never ever in my life" expected to score an ARIA nomination, let alone six.

"I never would have thought that I'd be nominated for an ARIA so I'm very, very happy. It's special," she said.

"Six? That's great! Album Of The Year, that's pretty fucking cool and the other people in that category, I just feel blessed to be with them."

Paul Kelly has scored five nominations and has become the first artist in ARIA history to be nominated across three genres in the same year. Kelly is nominated for Best Male Artist for Nature, Best Adult Contemporary Album for Nature and Best Blues & Roots Album for Live At Sydney Opera House, as well as picking up a win in the Fine Arts category Best Classical Album for his work with James Ledger, Thirteen Ways To Look At Birds

Meanwhile PNAU, who have scored two nominations, will be looking to score Best Dance Release for the third year straight with Solid Gold, on the back of 2018 and 2017 winning tracks, Go Bang and Chameleon.

"It'd be great to get a trifecta, but I think we've got a lot of competition from RÜFÜS DU SOL and a few of the others," PNAU's Sam Littlemore told The Music.

Among the nominees are previous ARIA Award big winners Gang Of Youths and Amy Shark, as well as Sampa The Great, Baker Boy, G Flip, Stella Donnelly, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Matt Corby, Amyl & The Sniffers, Midnight Oil, Tame Impala and more.
