Australian indie folk trio Sons of the East have shared a devastating update with fans, revealing that their recording studio “completely burnt down.”

Luckily, nobody was inside when the fire broke out, and all the firefighters who attended the scene are safe. The damage is materially significant, however, with the band noting that almost all of their studio equipment was “destroyed” in the blaze.

Destroyed equipment includes instruments they’ve owned and toured with “for decades,” as well as computers and backup drives, which contained “much of the new music” Sons of the East have been working on.

The band – guitarist and banjo player Dan Wallage, lead vocalist Jack Rollins, and multi-instrumentalist Nic Johnston – shared comparison photos of the studio and its equipment, along with pictures and a video of the severe fire damage.

“We are still coming to terms with the damage,” the trio wrote, adding, “Thank you to everyone who has reached out with messages of support and offers to use studios and instruments etc - we feel very supported and lucky to have such good people around us!

“It’s a pretty devastating thing to wake up to, and we’re still trying to understand what’s happened, but regardless, we’ll push on. We have very exciting things coming up and this isn’t going to stop us.”

The band captioned the post, “We are safe and sound. Thanks for all the love.”

The devastating blaze occurred just a few weeks before Sons of the East come home to perform at the country music-themed festival, Strummingbird, alongside Tyler Childers, Sam Barber, James Johnston, Bailey Zimmerman, and others.

Last year, the trio released their long-awaited new album, SONS, and embarked on an Australian tour in support of the record.

SONS arrived less than three years after the trio released their debut album, Palomar Parade, named after the Northern Beaches street on which it was recorded.

Along with the streaming success of the Palomar Parade singles On My Way, You Might Think, What I Do and Another Night, Sons of the East have built their fanbase further through touring, essentially living on the road.
