13 Weeks Into 2022 And Australia Still Has No New #1 Single

Heat Waves is again at No.1 in America and Switzerland (both third week), while it rises back up to No.2 in Germany and New Zealand and remains at that peak in Canada, while here the song logs it's sixtieth week within the Top 10, now consisting of two runs of 30 weeks apiece (1-Feb to 23-Aug, 2021 and then again from 6-Sept. to now) with only August 30th, 2021 being it's single week outside of the Top 10, prior to late January of 2021 where it took 24 weeks to initially climb into the ten. 

The Glass Animals track now claims the longest continual stay at the top this year with it's fourth straight week atop the ARIA Singles Chart, while the English band are now the equal fourth longest running act at No.1 for this decade, alongside fellow country-persons Elton John and Dua Lipa who've also amassed ten broken weeks at the top this decade with Cold Heart (PNAU Remix), which is also tied as the equal twelfth longest running No.1 ever (1940 to 2022) and the equal third longest chart-topper for this decade.

Ed Sheeran's Bad Habits rebound two places to No.2 this week thanks to his March 2023 concert tour issuing the tickets this past week, the same place his parent album = (Equals) has jumped back to, while he also rebounds two spots to No.5 with his other Top 10 entry Shivers, giving him two songs within the Top 5 this week, while in-between the two Ed tracks are single place dips for both Stay by Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber (US #2) and the Elton and Dua track Cold Heart (Canada {12 wks} and New Zealand {8 wks} #1) to No.3 and No.4 respectively.

The top five songs have all notched up half-a-year within the Top 10 each, a rare chart feat itself, with the below listing of this week's Top 5 showing their position on the listing for 'Most Weeks within the Top 10'.

Heat Waves - 60 weeks (#1 on the list)

Bad Habits - 38 weeks (#4)

Stay - 37 weeks (#5)

Cold Heart - 32 weeks (#6)

Shivers - 27 weeks (equal #10)

Further single place drops occur for Where Are You Now by Lost Frequencies and Calum Scott to No.6, abcdeFU by Gayle to No.7, the Encanto lead single We Don't Talk About Bruno to No.9 and Lil' Nas X is back to one song within the Top 10 as That's What I Want is down to No.10. In between those small dips is a three place rise to a new peak of No.8, and the first new Top 10 entry to the ten in a month, for the current English and Irish No.1 single (third week in both locations) for Dave and Starlight, becoming his first Top 10 single locally. 

UP:

Justin Bieber's Ghost continues to slowly rise back up the charts here, as this week on it's (accumulated Top 100 weeks) half-year chart anniversary (26 weeks), up to No.12, while it rises to a new peak of No.6 in the U.S.A. this week. The Weeknd's Save Your Tears and Enemy (new U.S. peak of No.8) for Imagine Dragons are on hold at No.15 and No.17 respectively, while the Camila Cabello and Ed Sheeran duet Bam Bam rises two places to land between them at a new peak of No.16. 

Four songs land new peaks within the Top 30 this week, as Following the Sun for SUPER-Hi and Neeka followed by The Motto for Tiësto and Ava Max both climb two spots apiece to No.21 and No.22, while last week's new entry for Megan Thee Stallion and Dua Lipa with Sweetest Pie jumps three to No.24 and Elley Duhé gains a new chart-height at No.27 with her first entry Middle of the Night. 

Doja Cat has two songs rising two places each with Kiss Me More up to No.23 and Woman back up to No.26, while her teaming with Tyga and Freaky Deaky is a non-mover at No.34. Flume's Say Nothing track flies back up eleven spots to No.29 thanks to a new remix issued last week by Tchami.

Tate McRae rebounds two spots to No.31 with She's All I Wanna Be, the 121 week running Weeknd entry Blinding Lights rises four to No.33, while another track cracking the half-year chart-stay is the Coldplay and BTS track My Universe, which is back up seven spots to No.44 and Jaymes Young sees his Infinity single move back up three spots to a new peak of No.46.

Ed Sheeran scores a fourth Top 50 entry this week with his record-holder for 'Longest Charted Single' at 258 weeks (and rising), as his 2017 single Perfect rebounds nine spots to land at No.47, it's first Top 50 appearance for 2022, having last poked it's head back into the fifty on August 30th, 2021 at No.49. The song started its chart life on March 13th, 2017 and has only ever been out of the Top 100 for six weeks (usually around Xmas time when the influx of seasonal tunes pushes it out of the chart for a week or two).

DOWN: 

After a month of no movement in or out of the Top 10, this week we see one song enter thus the dropout belongs to Lil' Nas X and his track Industry Baby (HP-4, WI10-28) which is now the equal ninth longest running Top 10 single in Australia, and surpasses his 27 weeks running first entry Old Town Road. Luude and Colin Hay drop two places to No.14 with the DnB remix of Down Under (UK #6, NZ #3, Irish #15), while ACraze and Cherish see a three place drop to No.19 with Do it To it. 

Dove Cameron drops her Boyfriend five places this week to No.25, while Nirvana's surge last week with Something in the Way slumps back down eight spots this week to perch at No.30. Jack Harlow's Nail Tech venture has a five place slide to No.37 and the second and final Top 50 entry from the Encanto soundtrack in Surface Pressure drops nine places to land at No.39. If the film wins at this weekend's 'Academy Awards' ceremony then it could boost both tracks back up the chart next week. 

There are two place drops for both Charlie Puth's Light Switch and Billie Eilish with Happier Than Ever to No.41 and No.45 respectively, while three place moves occur for both Better Days by NEIKED and Mae Muller and Love Tonight for SHouse to No.49 and No.50, with the Labrinth and Zendaya entry I'm Tired leaving the Top 50 from last week's No.38 spot. 

NEW ENTRIES:

#38 - Maybe by Machine Gun Kelly & Bring Me the Horizon (Bad Boy/Interscope) is taken from his just issued (March 25th) sixth album Mainstream Sellout, which has already seen three singles issued from it in Ay! feat. Lil' Wayne (didn't make the Top 100), emo girl with Willow (HP-78, 14-Feb, 2022) and Papercuts (HP-73, 23-Aug, 2021), with this new entry now his 13th Top 100 entry (11 as lead, 2 as guest) and only his fourth Top 50 placement. 

#40 - Let's Trot by Brothers & Joel Fletcher (BROTHERS) is the first entry for the Western Sydney rap duo Brothers, who've teamed with Melbourne DJ, producer and remixer Joel Fletcher for their mad-cap (see the video for what I'm talking about) first entry. Joel was last on the charts in April of 2013 with Loco alongside Seany B, and this is now his fourth Top 50 entry.
