This morning, ARIA unveiled the nominees for the upcoming ARIA Awards on YouTube, and it’s fair to say that Australian music is huge and thriving in 2024.

The 2023 Michael Gudinski Breakthrough Artist nominees Royel Otis lead this year’s ARIA Awards with a mind-boggling eight nominations after experiencing a massive year behind their debut album, Pratts & Pain. EDM icon Dom Dolla follows with six nominations.

Angie McMahon and Kylie Minogue, meanwhile, are tied for five nominations, 3%, Amy Shark, RÜFÜS DU SOL, The Kid LAROI, Tones And I, and Troye Sivan have gathered four nominations apiece, and Confidence Man, FISHER, Mildlife, Miss Kaninna, SPEED, and Troy Cassar-Daley have amassed three nominations each.

Australian music will be celebrated across 29 categories, including Album of the Year, Best Solo Artist, Best Group, Song of the Year, the Michael Gudinski Breakthrough Artist Award, Best Independent Release, and many more.

In terms of genre, acts including Kobie Dee and ONEFOUR have been nominated in the Best Hip-Hop/Rap Release category, Forest Claudette and PANIA make appearances in the Best Soul/R&B Release category, Grinspoon and Middle Kids have been nominated for Best Rock Album, Crowded House and Fanning Dempsey National Park in Best Adult Contemporary Album, Casey Barnes and Troy Cassar-Daley for Best Country Album, Polaris and Teenage Joans for Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album, and stacks of other artists have been recognised for their art.

In a statement, ARIA CEO Annabelle Herd said of this year’s nominees: “Everyone at ARIA is absolutely thrilled to celebrate such an incredible list of commercially successful nominees for 2024 across a huge breadth of genres. It is a list that covers global megastars, touring acts on the brink of world domination and a genuinely exciting group of up-and-coming stars with plenty of buzz.

“Personally, I’m really excited by the stars dominating stages across the world in this year’s hotly contested Best Dance Release, but it’s certainly not isolated to one genre. This year, we get to celebrate a deep list of household names in Australian music that span all genres, highlighting the huge shift in positive momentum that the Australian music industry experienced this year.

“It’s a time to acknowledge those who are achieving amazing things, and spotlight those who are about to, to ensure we continue this momentum forward into 2025. Congratulations to all of the nominees, their teams, and, of course, the fans. See you in November!”

This year’s ARIA Awards will be held on Wednesday, 20 November, at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney/Gadigal land. They’ll be broadcast live from the Hordern Pavilion from 5 pm AEST on Wednesday, 20 November, on Stan.

A special presentation will also air on Channel Nine from 7:30 pm, with performances and other moments viewers may want to watch airing on the official ARIA YouTube channel.

In November, Missy Higgins will be inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame.
