Melbourne’s Zenith Records – best known as Australia’s only fully integrated, end to end vinyl pressing facility – have just increased their pressing potential massively, supercharging their output with some new upgrades.

If you’re a fan of music on vinyl – especially Aussie music on vinyl – there’s a near-perfect chance you’ve got a record pressed at Zenith in your collection.

From names like Kylie Minogue, Amyl And The Sniffers, Tones & I, King Gizzard & The Wizard Lizard, Teskey Brothers, The Chats, and more, Zenith are responsible for having pressed more than three million vinyl discs over 11,000 unique titles since 2013.

Over the past year, however, Zenith have been hard at work expanding their operations by investing in cutting-edge upgrades across the lacquer cutting, galvanic plating, and pressing processes.

According to a press release, “the installation of four state-of-the-art Pheenix Alpha AD12 automatic record presses has tripled production capacity to approximately 6,000 records per week, making Zenith the largest vinyl pressing plant in the Southern Hemisphere.”

With this scale in mind, Zenith are now able to offer impressive turnaround times of just four weeks for orders up to 10,000 units. An industry-leading figure, this also includes the likes of in-house lacquer cutting, plating, and print finishing, meaning that with the local manufacture of inner sleeves, Zenith have ensured they won’t be beholden to offshore resources as they make themselves even more independent within the Australian music scene.

Zenith also explains that their growth comes accompanied by a deepened commitment to quality and sustainability, with their Quality Manager keeping things in check from an audio and physical standpoint, with automated processes (that is, automated plating baths and a fully recapped VMS 70 cutting lathe) helping to improve consistency and output.

In a statement, Zenith founder Paul Rigby explains that these continuing upgrades “confirm our mission to deliver premium vinyl, faster, and with uncompromising precision.”

Zenith Records first opened their doors back in 2005 after acquiring the long-running Corduroy Records and its machinery. Following a few changes behind the scenes, Zenith has existed under its current ownership and in its current location in Brunswick East since 2013.
