Just months after announcing that GYROstream would be launching GYRO.Group, its previously-eponymous DIY retail distribution platform has now announced its own change, adopting G.Y.R.O. as its new moniker.

The Australian independent digital distribution and artist services company celebrated its seventh birthday back in June with a new name, with the newly-rebadged G.Y.R.O. part of its impressive stable alongside DistroDirect, GROUP SPEED and Soothe Sounds.

Now, the new monikers have continued, with G.Y.R.O. (that is, Get Your Record Out) noting that while its name may have changed, they still remain as focused as ever in achieving their mission of celebrating independent artists on the global stage.

"Our name has evolved, but the focus hasn’t. G.Y.R.O. reflects growth, not reinvention. It’s a sharper expression of the same mission we’ve had since day one." explains G.Y.R.O.’s Head of Marketing Alison Bremner. "This brand evolution is about meeting Australian and New Zealand talent where they are today, and where they want to be tomorrow."

While Bremner leads internally, the new rebrand is the product of a collaboration with creative studio Pretty–Soon®, who are themselves known for their work with brands such as Future Classic, Apple Music, and more, and musical acts such as Ta-ku, Wafia, and Becca Hatch.

"Partnering with the G.Y.R.O. team on their rebrand journey felt like the perfect sync of creative ambition and cultural change,” said Pretty–Soon® Design Director Mike Souvanthalisith.

“Being so passionate about both the music industry and community, we’re proud to add our fingerprint to such a transformative platform for artists, local and abroad.”

Of course, the rebrand isn’t where the good news ends, with G.Y.R.O. also revealing that former triple j host and multihyphenate media presenter Ash McGregor will be stepping to lead as their Artist Partnerships Manager.

According to the company, McGregor’s nascent role will see her advocating for independent acts with the local music industry while strengthening G.Y.R.O.’s relationship with industry bodies and education institutions by curating valuable resources, experiences, and opportunities.

“I’m thrilled to be joining the team at G.Y.R.O., continuing to work closely with local independent artists and making sure their talent cuts through,” McGregor said. “Independent music is the lifeblood of the Australian scene, and G.Y.R.O. is doing vital work to make sure their voices are heard on a global stage.

“I can’t wait to champion the music and stories coming through the platform, uncover new acts and support artists in reaching the next step in their careers.”

G.Y.R.O. first launched in Brisbane in 2018, having worked with tens of thousands of artists in the past seven years, including the likes of Jewel Owusu, Ruel, The Amity Affliction, Ruby Fields, Kisschasy, and more.

With its headquarters remaining in Queensland, GYRO.Group has operations in Sydney and Melbourne, the US, UK, Canada, Brazil, the Philippines, and India, with a staff of 60 and 500 partners around the world. Its awards have ranged from the tech Tinnies to ticketing agency Oztix, lauding it for “international expansion”.

The recent launch of GYRO.Group has allowed its ecosystem to thrive, combining their local know-how with international reach and myriad possibilities.

“Being part of GYRO.Group means we can take artists from release day to world tours – and everything in between,” Co-Founder & CEO Andy Irvine said in a statement. “We’ve scaled up, but our mission stays the same: Artist First. Always.”

GYRO.Group have also announced a new website alongside their news as well, which is available now via www.gyro.music.
