Former triple j presenter Ebony Boadu is the latest famous face to join the Mushroom team, hopping aboard the Mushroom Labels crew as its newest A&R Manager.
She’ll work with a range of artists across the expansive roster – which spans such iconic labels as Liberation, Ivy League, I OH YOU, Soothsayer, Bloodlines, Liberator and 100s + 1000s – working out of Mushroom’s Sydney office under the guidance of Damian Slevison, managing director at Liberation.
In a press statement, Mushroom Labels COO Chris Maund said he and his colleagues are “really excited to have Ebony join the A&R team”. He continued: “Her experience at triple j and as a DJ has given her invaluable artist/industry relationships and very broad and diverse taste. She has infectious energy and is perfectly placed to aid our existing roster and uncover future stars.”
Boadu cut her teeth as a DJ, curating parties of her own before taking over triple j’s House Party show. She later teamed up with Bryce Mills to co-host the national youth broadcaster’s Breakfast show, before clocking off at the end of 2022. As a DJ, she’s performed everywhere from Splendour In The Grass to Falls and Listen Out, and supported global legends like Stormzy and Kaytranada.
In other Mushroom news, it was confirmed earlier this month that the company’s live event arm, Mushroom Events, had its biggest-ever year for concerts in 2023. It was a timely win for the most iconic Australian music company, having celebrated its 50th anniversary last year.
That milestone itself culminated in one of the year’s biggest concerts, packing out Naarm/Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena for performances from the likes of Jimmy Barnes, Missy Higgins, The Rubens, The Temper Trap, Paul Kelly, Yothu Yindi and Amy Shark. The show was lauded by critics and drew in nearly a million viewers when it aired on TV.
