King Gizzard & The Lizard WizardOne of Sydney’s finest rock bands, C.O.F.F.I.N. (Children of Finland Fighting in Norway) are back with long-awaited new music, a documentary trailer, and signed to a new record label.
Today, C.O.F.F.I.N. have announced their signing to p(doom) Records, launched by King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and home to the prolific Aussie band, plus GUM/Kenny Ambrose Smith, CAVS, and more.
The band returns to the spotlight with the release of new single Sleep in It, produced by Amyl and the Sniffers’ Declan Mehrtens and vocals co-produced by Frenzal Rhomb’s Jason Whalley.
It’s a track that expresses emotions from distance and disconnection. They explain, “It’s about the consequence of a lopsided life and a longing for relationships with yourself and others to feel nourished and full. Fronting the fields you’ve failed to tend to.”

Trading the group’s typical fast-paced stylings for something more cinematic, vocalist/drummer Ben Ulitzka Portnoy – who directed and edited the music video – said of the clip, “The original idea for the ‘Sleep in It’ video clip was to film us from a friend’s old fishing boat on one of the freestanding Wedding Cake lighthouses that sit in the middle of Sydney Harbour.
“We jumped off our vessel onto the white structure and climbed up to its 360-degree mini-balcony. 5 minutes into filming, our friends from the ferry tipped off the water police who promptly showed up to escort us back to shore… Luckily, there wasn’t much of a punishment, but unfortunately, there was even less of a video clip.
“In need of a new idea, we turned to Abijah [Rado] (one of the guitarists in the band) and our friend Will de Monchaux (who filmed), who are both eager ocean divers and sea-life documenters. Growing up with the ocean as our playground, we sometimes forget how otherworldly that environment is.
“Initially, I wasn’t sure how this slo-mo marine setting connected to the track, but as I was editing, the partnership became apparent. Sleeping with the fishes, drowning, blissful escapism and disoriented weightlessness.”
