Spotify Wrapped landed yesterday (5 December), with artists, music industry professionals, the Prime Minister, and all your friends sharing their favourite songs of the year on social media.

In terms of Australian music and what dominated in 2024, it was evident that mega tours by Fred again.. and Dom Dolla have led to dance music becoming one of the most popular genres in Australia. Dance music is now an exporting powerhouse in Australia, second only to pop music.

In 2024, The Kid LAROI was the most “newly discovered Australian artist” by global audiences. The USA was named the country where Australian artists were streamed the most from outside of Australia, followed by the UK, Germany, Canada, and Mexico.

The Kid LAROI was the most streamed Australian artist in the Asia—Pacific region (APAC), followed by Troye Sivan and Chase Atlantic.

Like last year, The Wiggles were Australia’s most streamed local artists of the year, followed by The Kid LAROI, AC/DC, Vance Joy, and RÜFÜS DU SOL. And it turns out that local listeners are still obsessed with Vance Joy’s Riptide, with Spotify Wrapped showcasing the 2013 song as the top local track streamed in Australia in 2024.

Riptide was followed by CYRIL’s Stumblin’ In, Saving Up by Dom Dolla, Nights Like This by The Kid LAROI, and You Shook Me All Night Long by AC/DC.

But that’s not the whole story. Taylor Swift was Australia’s most streamed artist of the year (unsurprising after her colossal Era’s tour), while Benson Boone’s Beautiful Things was the most-streamed song across the country.

Swift’s latest album, The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology, was the most-streamed album in Australia, followed by another two pop records: Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet and Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard And Soft.

In terms of podcasts, The Joe Rogan Experience retained the top spot as the most popular podcast in Australia, followed by The Diary Of A CEO with Steven Bartlett (#2), Huberman Lab (#3), Casefile True Crime (#4) and Call Her Daddy (#5).

Spotify AU/NZ’s Head of Content, Ben Watts, said of this year’s Wrapped: “For a decade now, music has been at the heart of the Spotify Wrapped experience – year after year giving Australian fans a reflection and a reminder of the year gone by. 2024 was no exception, showing up with its own set of trends, moments and movements that redefined the music landscape, with Australian music right in the centre of that.

“Dance music remains Australia’s musical juggernaut, solidifying its position as a leading export genre while making waves on the home front. This year, standout tracks from Dom Dolla and CRYRIL have climbed into the top local tracks, reflecting the incredible momentum of these two artists. Both have enjoyed a phenomenal year, captivating audiences locally and internationally as they continue their remarkable rise.”
