The Wiggles Crowned Australia's Most-Streamed Local Artist On Spotify

The Spotify Wrapped results are in, and to nobody’s surprise, Taylor Swift is the most-streamed artist on the streaming platform globally.

Spotify Wrapped provides subscribers with a detailed and colourful look at what they listened to throughout 2023, with fun stats like “you were in the top 0.5% of people who listened to [insert non-mainstream artist here]”.

In Australia, the most-streamed artists on Spotify are Taylor Swift, Drake, The Weeknd, Ed Sheeran and Morgan Wallen, with the latter proving just how popular country music has become down under. In addition to his appearance in the most-streamed artists list, Wallen also stars in the most-streamed songs list, which sees Flowers by Miley Cyrus at #1, followed by Wallen’s Last Night, Kill Bill by SZA, Boy’s A Liar Pt. 2 by PinkPantheress and Ice Spice, and As It Was by Harry Styles. Wallen has also dominated the list of most-streamed albums in Australia.

On the local front, The Wiggles were the most-streamed local artist in Australia for the year. With their multi-generational appeal, nostalgia factor, soundtracking the first few years of a child’s life and their triple j Hottest 100 winning cover of Tame Impala’s Elephant, it’s not too surprising to see The Wiggles up the top.

The other most-streamed local artists in Australia are the uber-popular The Kid LAROI, Vance Joy, Flume and AC/DC. The most-streamed local songs in Australia find Vance Joy’s 2013 hit single Riptide at #1, The Kid LAROI’s Stay featuring Justin Bieber, How Do I Say Goodbye by Dean Lewis, another appearance by The Kid LAROI with Love Again, and last year’s triple j Hottest 100 winning track, Say Nothing by Flume and MAY-A.

The Music’s Stephen Green has praised Vance Joy’s impact over the last ten years, writing in a recent feature, “While we’ve been closely following the plight of the artists that AREN’T in the chart, perhaps its time we stepped back and celebrated the amazing achievement of an Australian song and an Australian musician that continues to engage the Australian public ten years after its release.”
