Today is music lovers’ Christmas: Spotify Wrapped is finally here, showcasing your favourite songs of the year (and your kids’ favourite songs of the year if you share an account with your family).

It’s also a time of year when people think, “Can I change my Spotify Wrapped?” despite the fact that there is nothing to be embarrassed about when it comes to enjoying music.

Spotify Wrapped has been running since 2016, allowing users of the streaming giant to reflect on the year that was in relation to their listening habits.

Each year, users are quick to share their most-listened songs of the year, their most-streamed artists, and the other statistics that have set them apart over the past 12 months. It’s not just teens sharing their lists, either.

This year, The Music has caught up with notable figures from the Australian music industry to discover what dominated their Spotify Wrapped lists. Read on to learn a little more about officials from ARIA, TEG, Untitled Group, and many more.

  9. RÜFÜS DU SOL - Lately

Taylor Swift is definitely listened to by my kids and in the lead-up to the Eras tour, but I am also a big fan.

Chappell Roan is amazing, and my daughter did her HSC this year, so Good Luck, Babe was definitely a theme song (although slightly out of context of the meaning of the lyrics, lol). I was in Chappell's top .05%, so I am a real fan. I love her.

RÜFÜS DU SOL is obviously a great love of mine, and Tobiahs was an awesome discovery this year - I can't wait to see one of his sets live; they look so fun. I'm not sure how those particular RÜFÜS songs got in - my fave is Underwater and I love the new album.

Music On The Radio had nothing to do with our PPCA radio caps campaign, I promise - it's just a great track.

Apparently, August was my “Golden hour Tulum Indietronica moment,” and that sounds about where I want to be right now!

“It's awesome to see some of my favourite artists in my top 10! I've always been a big fan of Hozier, and Work Song is a classic. And revisiting Pearl Jam's Hail, Hail is a blast from the past that was incredible to see live on the recent tour. The list features artists that I’ve had the pleasure of touring this year, like Hozier, Pearl Jam and Troye, as well as new artists I’ve listened to a lot recently because of those tours, like Teen Jesus And The Jean Teasers.”

Will Cuming (aka LANKS) - Artist, and Product Development Manager, Community Music

  1. Ry X - Only

  1. Ry X / Olafur Arnolds - Oceans

  1. Taylor Swift - seven

  1. Phoebe Bridgers - Halloween

  1. Sufjan Stevens - Death With Dignity

  1. Dustin Tebbutt - Resin

  1. Ngaiire - Glitter (Live At The Sydney Opera House)

  1. Charli XCX / Bon Iver - I think about it all the time

  2. Caroline Polachek - Blood And Butter

None of this says that I was much of an early adopter of new music in 2024! I was honestly still in grief mode earlier in the year after my dad passed away the previous year and the comfort and healing nature of listening to my cousin, Ry X, Phoebe Bridgers’ Punisher album, Dustin Tebbutt, as well as the Sufjan Stevens songs in particular, are a reflection of that.

I am also notoriously slow to get on to new music and the Caroline Polachek and Ngaiire live records are some of many that my wife was obsessed with, and I only jumped on after she had stopped telling me I needed to listen to them.

Spotify Wrapped has always served as a recap for my family's musical listening. When we listen to music in the car or home, I totally control the aux. So I'm proud to see Royel Otis there so prominently - it was an album my daughter and I shared this year whenever we could, as every minute I still have her ear I want her to always put Aussie Music first. And also... yeah the girls!!! Love my ‘Pink Plates Catwalk Pop Phase’.

  5. Rancid

“Another great year of amazing music. Some old classics and some brand new songs. It was a great year for Australian music, in my eyes. For the first time, I started listening to rising country star Wade Forster, who has an amazing debut album that I couldn’t stop listening to. Then, of course, ARIA Award-winning Teen Jesus And The Jean Teasers’ song Salt won’t be getting old anytime soon. ISHAN’s hit song My Mouth came out in March this year and shows no signs of slowing down.

Radhika Das is an amazing artist playing classical Indian devotional music who recently toured Australia for the first time and is building an amazing live following worldwide.

Rancid has been my favourite band since I was 14. So, at the age of 40, it’s nice to know they’re still in my Top 5.

“I’m chuffed to say I made some amazing live music memories in 2024, and my Spotify Wrapped reflects many of them. I can practically pinpoint the mood swings (and jet lag!) by the artists that soundtracked them.

There’s something surreal about seeing the year’s highs and lows summarised in a vibrant graphic fit for social sharing. It’s been a difficult year for many, no less for musicians who count on these streams converting into real revenue, be it physical music, merch, or gig tickets. If you don’t own something by your top artists, this is your sign!”

Music soundtracks every moment of my life from the moment I wake up. Chappell Roan, Sabrina & Charli (the holy trinity) soundtracked my 2024, and my hot girl walks. Thanks to the girls, and thanks to Spotify for tracking my data in a fun way!

Nazlican Eren - Community & Engagement Manager, Music Australia

  1. Hype Williams – Baby Blu

  2. Kase Avila – As Long As We Got

  3. Hype Williams – Break4Love

  4. Emjaysoul – 21-9-23

  5. 700 Feel – Familiar Flavours

  7. RAY OTW – Freaky Lover

  8. Oscar #Worldpeace – Ferocious

  9. Kase Avila – I See You

  10. Vegyn – Beauty Stranger (155 BPM)

As expected, most of my top 10 songs are the instrumental tracks I use as a sound bed when I’m on the radio every week [Sunset with Nazty Gurl, FBi Radio], which I’m not mad about at all as this year, I made a conscious effort to play songs from Australian producers. I’m stoked to see my underground favourites Maina Doe, 700 Feel and RAY OTW making it to the top 10 and can’t wait for next year’s Spotify Wrapped to see how many more Australian artists will be making up my top 100!

Nic Kelly - Announcer, Hit Network + Host of The Hot Hits

  1. Isaac Dunbar – Apartment A

  2. Kim Petras – Problematique

  3. Chappell Roan – Naked In Manhattan

  4. Chappell Roan – Red Wine Supernova

  5. Jeffrey Eli – Wife Pleaser

  6. Troye Sivan – Honey

  7. Allerdyce – Spoon Song

  8. Alphabeat – Fascination

  9. These Kids Wear Crowns – Jumpstart

  10. Zedd & Remi Wolf – Lucky

This feels like my least surprising, most on-brand Top 10 I’ve ever had in Wrapped. Two cinematic Chappell songs, a couple of late 2000s pop songs I had a 4-day hyperfixation on, an indie song by a Sydney band, and a couple of queer underground US popstars. Adds up to my entire taste. Shoutout to Isaac Dunbar, who I think is one of the most phenomenal, self-assured and exciting popstars on the planet. Get amongst it.

Nice to see my good mates Sarah and Georgia from IN2STELLAR in there, too!”

I love Billie just as much as the next girly, but damn, 3 out of 5?

As a Latin Music Consultant, it’s easy to assume that my list would be full of Latin artists, but what I really admire are powerful storytellers - regardless of where they’re from.

One thing I do wish I could see is the Spotify Genre Burger- merengue, pop, reggaeton, and HEAVY on the show tunes; I’m just a theatre kid at heart.

Fun fact: I listened to more than 89K minutes of music (top 2% listeners worldwide) - ¡Música es vida!

5. Je M'appelle (feat. melvitto, Ayo Jay)

I knew Giggs and Adekunle Gold would battle it out for that number one position, and Giggs won the trophy. I also had a feeling that my number one genre would shift this year for the first time from hip hop to Afrobeats and I was right. I used the brand new AI feature to create a playlist of my top genre and it was an Afrobeats jam fest.

I’ve really enjoyed these incredible albums released in 2024 from Vampire Weekend, Nick Ward, Phoebe Go, MJ Lenderman, Tyler, The Creator and Hovvdy. I promise that I’m actually fun at parties.

Spotify Wrapped never lies! Clearly, late-night work sessions, the kids hijacking the aux, and my love for full albums have all left their mark. A little chaos, but it’s my kind of soundtrack.
