Finally Returning To Australia, Faithless Are Paying Homage To The Beloved Maxi Jazz While Looking To The Future

PREMIERE: Rya Park Doesn't Hold Back In Confessional Debut Single 'Billy'

The up-and-comer will play her maiden run of shows in Sydney and Melbourne next month.

Ascendant singer-songwriter Rya Park has unveiled her sublime debut single, Billy, ahead of her eagerly awaited first EP and maiden run of shows.

Park utilises a sparse soundscape of hushed rhythms and fuzzed-out, bassy guitar to highlight her euphonious vocals as she sings of the unspecified transgressions of the eponymous Billy, someone who has clearly wronged the muso in ways alluded to but never explicitly expressed.

“The song was inspired by a relationship that ended without explanation," Park elaborated of the tune's inspiration in a statement. "The lyrics intensely focus on a range of emotions that stemmed from the situation.

"A long time had passed when I got to writing the song, but there were still so many unanswered questions and I just wanted to get everything out onto the page and not hold back."

With bursts of harmony and confessional, evocative lyrics in her arsenal, Park has crafted an enticing and intriguing first single that serves to heighten excitement for what's yet to come from this emergent talent.

Park will be taking the tune to the live arena — alongside other cuts from her upcoming EP — with shows lined up at Sydney's Oxford Art Factory (4 November) and The Evelyn, Melbourne (9 November).

Don't let the restrained recording fool you, though; Park promises that her live shows are "very energetic and dramatic" affairs.

"My full band is coming on tour with me, so fans can definitely expect electrifying guitars, powerful rock beats, soulful harmonies and soaring vocals," she said.

Tickets are available now; Billy will be released on Friday 6 October.
