'The lyrics are really brutal.'
The new single from Sydney rockers Highline is, as frontman Sam Rigney told The Music, “about caring for someone despite the relationship being over.”
Staying Sane was written after a relationship of his fell apart, and the track touches on the “the push and pull games that were being played” in conversations that followed.
“I was a bit of a wreck when we wrote this song and I think a lot of people can relate to what I was feeling at the time,” he said.
“The song was written pretty quickly over a couple of days, and after a trip down to a farm in Bowral, we had finished what we believe to be our best song yet.
“We drew a lot from bands like The Strokes and Powderfinger and DMA’S when we wrote this song. It’s upbeat, the chorus drives hard, and the lyrics are really cut-throat and brutal."
