Melbourne outfit Contrast present a refreshing take on indie shoegaze with their latest single, Black Hole, but it wasn’t an easy sound to arrive at.
The new cut is taken from their debut album, Singularity, which took six years to produce.
The album’s initial record sessions were on a computer belonging to King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, which in itself is pretty cool, until you find out it was stolen while the band was touring the US in 2015.
They regrouped, enlisted drummer Richard Andrew as a producer and recorded the entire thing once again.
"This album is the result of the three of us getting together and bonding over a rather unhealthy obsession with guitar music of the ‘80s and ‘90s,” Contrast’s James Thomson said.
“This one is for fans of the Jesus and Mary Chain, The Cure and The Velvet Underground."
Singularity drops tomorrow.
